Djely Tapa

With Dankoroba, Djely Tapa continues her artistic exploration at the intersection of Malian and Western cultures, past, present, and future. Hailing from the Kayes region in western Mali, she carries forward the wisdom and vocal traditions of the griots, historic storytellers dating back to the 13th-century Manding Empire. Her music blends Mandingue traditions, desert blues, and electronic sounds. Djely Tapa debuted as a solo artist in 2019 with Barokan, which won the 2020 JUNO Award for World Music Album, and followed with Dankoroba, awarded the 2025 JUNO for Global Music Album, solidifying her status as a leading voice in contemporary world music.
