Chicha Libre

Chicha Libre is a Brooklyn-based collective founded in the mid-2000s that helped revive and reinvent chicha, the psychedelic Peruvian cumbia sound mixing Latin rhythms with surf, organ, and rock elements. Originally created as a tribute to classic Peruvian chicha, they evolved into an original project blending influences from their French, American, Mexican and Venezuelan members with global pop and tropical stylings. Known for vibrant, free-form music that honors tradition while pushing boundaries, they’ve toured internationally and collaborated with Peruvian icons, sharing stages worldwide while expanding chicha’s reach beyond Peru.
