Musical style
An essential band on Québec’s heavy music scene, Gros Mené’s reputation is already solidly enshrined. Masterfully led by Fred Fortin, the trio launched a gem of a garage/stoner rock album in 1999 with the thunderous Tue ce drum Pierre Bouchard. Fans of the cult album had to wait 13 years before finally being able to bang their heads to another release from the band. But the wait was worthwhile, because with Agnus Dei (2012) the Montrealers show they haven’t lost any of their ferocious bite and are still just as heavy and grimy. This is a big deal for the festival, and there is no doubt in anybody’s mind that Gros Mené will be causing a raucous on the FEQ stage with their raw, lo-fi grooves and a fuzz pedal dialled in at 11.
