Musical style

A cult group in France in the 1990s, Les Négresses Vertes made a name for themselves with hits like Zobi la mouche and Voilà d'été from their first album, Mlah (1988). Their high-spirited protest rock, with flavours of gypsy jazz and raï, resonated beyond the borders of France. Despite the tragic death of singer and songwriter Helno in 1993, the band continued its adventure, releasing two albums and finally separating at the turn of the millenium. After a long period of radio silence, the mythical band got back together in 2018 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of Mlah. Keeping up the momentum, Les Négresses Vertes are coming to the Festival share their festive poetry, still as topical as ever.
